We will take part in the Horizon Project which links students around the globe. These students are creating wikis that help to explain what is "on the horizon" or the "Next big thing" as described in The Horizon Report .
You are to peer review and comment on their work. Your comments will be read both by these students and by experts around the world who are evaluating the project. Your main audience is the students. We practiced peer reviews and 3 essential steps.
The teams will review:
Mobile broadband (Monday)
Human and machine communication (Wednesday)
Each team is further divided into 4 parts. Each team creates a wiki. The divisions are:
Impact on education
Impact on government, politics and employment
Impact on arts, entertainment and leisure
Impact on science and health
So each topic has 5 wikis for you to review!
Your comments should go on your BCA Group page (to your left) and then on the Horizon Project's discussion tab leave a compliment and a suggestion for each wiki (5 each day). All of you possess the skills necessary to use discussion tabs. You are to leave a comment on their discussion tabs which includes a compliment and a suggestion. Type the wiki tag in the subject line.
You will complete the four tasks below on Monday and Wednesday. Complete all work on your Group's wiki page.
Task I
Read
Read and discuss the wikis . Discuss these questions as a group:
What do you understand about the trend itself?
Why do you think the trend is important for the future?
If the actual report is written for adults, how could the project teams make the information easier for you to understand?
What would you expect to find out in each trend's section?
How will you decide if the project team has done a good job of their trend?
Review the rubric that will be used to assess your feedback. Ensure that you understand all expectations for your work before you begin Task II.
Task II
Thoroughly Review and Discuss then leave Comments on their discussion tabs.
Thoroughly review and discuss your group's selected project.
Students will be asked to assess the projects and provide feedback on the discussion pages of the relevant wiki project pages. Understanding that these are projects in progress (roughly at mid-point), they will be asked to assess the projects as they are now according to the criteria below.
Task III
Evaluate Projects in Progress (Answer on your Group Page)
Use the criteria below to evaluate the each group's work. Be sure to remember that they are only about half-way through their project. This means that your comments will help them make their work even better! Think of this as a standard Peer Review and use constructive comments to help improve their work.
Take notes and provide feedback (on your Feedback Page) for each criteria listed below.
NOTE: Your feedback will be evaluated by a panel of experts using this rubric.
Peer Evaluation Criteria
Quality of Content
Does the content (writing) make sense?
Can you identify any areas which need clarification?
Pose three questions that arise from your reading - it could be questions about ambiguity of content, questions that were not addressed, or questions that you had after reading it (you would like more information).
Communication
Look at the Discussion pages of the wiki pages - effective communication?
Do they need more?
Are they clear in their messages to each other?
Is there a sense of negotiation and collaboration?
Collaboration
Does the work appear to be equally shared?
Does there appear to be any difficulties by one or more members of the team?
Presentation - Layout and Design
amount and relevance of graphics and media - comment on that
Recommendations?
Task IV

NOTE: Your feedback will be evaluated by a panel of experts using this rubric.
What do you think are the three key facts from the project?
Evaluate the accessibility and usability of the project (video, links, alt text, etc...)? Can you find the information easily? Is it formatted clearly?
Is there anything that you would add? There may be important links or ideas that we have covered in class that you could add to this project.
Be sure to follow the online writing guidelines to ensure that your work can be easily read online. Utilize:
